Street Fighter 2 (AKA ストリートファイターⅡ -The World Warrior- in Japan) is a 2D 1vs1 fighting game developed by Capcom in 1991 for arcades and released in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1992. Don’t you know Ryu, Ken or Blanka? Really?
If the 1st Street Fighter was the bar on which all fighting games were based on; SF 2 defined that genre. It took the one-on-one fighting format to new heights and started the fighting game craze that gave birth to clones, which you can still see today. Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior had some iterations that featured minor upgrades, but the first is the one most remembered by fans, even if it’s the most sluggish.

There are 8 different fighters to choose from, each one with its own fighting style unique to that character as well as a list of moves and attacks. The light, medium, and heavy kick and punch attacks remain. Combined that with special moves and you have an arsenal enough to demolish your opponent. The moves are executed using swirling actions on the controller’s d-pad.
The controls in Street Fighter 2 are excellent, responsive, and easy, but the somewhat slow pace can make the game a bit dated. Upgraded versions like SF2 Turbo and Super Street Fighter 2 offered faster action improved on this. You also can’t play as one of the bosses in this release so that can be a bum for some gamers.

Being the first ever 16Mb cartridge made for the Super Nintendo, Street Fighter 2 had the resource to mimic the arcade version almost identically. Fans are used to getting lower quality when arcade releases of their favorite games are ported to a console, but this game was an exception.
